Cheerleading

We regret to note that OBGC's Fall 2010 cheerleading has been cancelled.

OBGC Fall Cheerleading is an exciting part of the fall football season. The program is open to girls 1st to 8th grade. All squads are age and grade appropriate, and are run by a head coach, asst coach, and team parent. The program runs from mid August to late October/early November. Cheerleaders will cheer for OBGC's inhouse football teams. Cost for Fall 2010 $100

Grading/Tryouts: There are no tryouts or grading for cheerleading.

Seasons/Practices: Olney Cheerleading is run concurrently with Olney Football. The season runs from mid August into October. Practices will be held August tbd from 6-8pm at Farquhar Middle School outside before the season begins.

Once school begins (the week of August 30), practices will be held twice a week either Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday from 6-7:30pm. School location will be provided later.

Game and Practice locations: Once the season begins, practices are twice a week, with games on Saturday, times to be determined by the football schedule. Football is a sport that is played in all types of weather, therefore, when the boys play, we cheer, regardless of cold and/or rain. During the regular season, most squads will cheer at OBGC Park.

Coaches: Each squad is age/grade determined, and is paired with the appropriately aged football team. One head coach and one assistant coach, in addition to team parents, are attached to each squad. We also enlist the assistance of area Highschool Cheerleaders for additional support.

Coaches are needed for the squads – please consider helping out. The squads will be divided by grades. Grades 1-2, Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8. We need 2 or 3 coaches and some parent helpers for each squad, this makes it easier so coaches do not have to be at every practice and game. You don’t have to have any cheer experience; you will learn the cheers in August with the girls. Please register as a cheer coach/asst through the volunteer registration process.

Equipment: The girls will receive a uniform consisting of a shell vest, skirt, turtleneck top, socks and hair bow (only the vest and skirt will need to be returned at the end of the season). They will also receive a warm-up suit for the cold weather – which also is returned at the end of the season.

The girls are responsible for providing their own black briefs (blackies) that can be purchased at a dance shop and cheer shoes (style and store location to be provided later).
