OBGC Field Hockey 2010

Over the last several years the field hockey program has become one of the fastest growing sports at OBGC as the girls learn the sport and prepare for high-school competition. The OBGC Community Park at Freeman Fields offers a college level and expertly maintained grassed field that is dedicated to field hockey play during the fall.

OBGC Field Hockey is open to girls entering 5th thru 8th grade. No prior field hockey experience is necessary. Girls are placed on OBGC in-house teams. Practices are held twice a week at local area high schools until games begin and then the schedule will switch to one week-night game, one week-night practice and one Saturday game. Games are scheduled to begin the week of September 20^th and are played at the OBGC Community Park. The season ends on October 30^th – with the date of November 6^th reserved as a rain date for make up games.

OBGC provides uniform t-shirts and kilts. Kilts are expected to be returned at the end of the season. Each player must provide their own equipment as follows: Field Hockey stick, shin guards (reversible is best) and white and black soccer socks, mouth guard, water bottle and cleats or sneakers.

Field hockey sticks are available for rent with a $30 deposit. This cost is separate from the registration fee and is payable by check to OBGC. The check will be held by the Commissioner and will be returned after the season when the stick is returned.

We are in need of parents to volunteer to be team-managers and coaches. Our program exists because of the help of parents and volunteers. Teams are coached primarily by area high-school players who know the game, together with the help of parent volunteers.
