SEAL OF EXCELLENCE AWARDED TO OBGC 11/9/07

11/19/2007

SEAL OF EXCELLENCE AWARDED TO OBGC

OBGC was re-certified and awarded Maryland Nonprofits' Standards for  Excellence Seal on Friday November 9, 2007 in Cambridge, MD.   OBGC won the original Seal  of Excellence in 2004, and has maintained  the highest standards available in non-profit management for the past  3 years.  At the time, OBGC was the first sports organization  in the State of Maryland to earn the  award and the 55th out of approximately 20,000  total non-profits.
One  of Maryland Nonprofit's goals in  creating the Standards for Excellence
is to bolster public confidence and  support for nonprofit organizations.  A
select group of non-profits are willing to be open to peer reviews  and
outside scrutiny in order to assure the highest levels of  trust.  The "Seal of
Excellence" is awarded to an organization  after eight critical  areas in
non-profit management are subject to extensive scrutiny by  a group of peer advisors.  Those categories  are:  Mission and Program;  Governing Body; Conflict of Interest; Human Resources; Financial and Legal;  Openness; Fundraising; and Public Affairs and Public Policy.   Of the 22,000 nonprofits registered in  the State of Maryland today, only  73 have obtained the Seal, and OBGC is one of only four in  Montgomery  County that has been awarded it.
"The Board continues to be supportive of Maryland  Nonprofits' program that requires non-profits to meet measurable standards  of excellence.  OBGC's
efforts are based on doing what is right for  children and our Board is proud of
our staff and volunteers that do so  much to help execute the mission of the
club."  said Dan Dionisio, OBGC Chairman.  OBGC Treasurer, Harvey Metro noted, "We are proud to continue to implement the stringent financial control requirements required by the Standards for Excellence program.  These controls will provide additional reassurance to our members and donors that OBGC is managing the finances wisely."

OBGC was founded in  1969 with 115 children to provide  after school sports
programs and now serves nearly 7,000 children from  Montgomery  County each year.
