Dear
Friend,
As
a member of OBGC, you may not realize that there are only
1 full- and 2 part-time paid employees that work for the Club.
OBGC services nearly 7,000 children annually and has
over 800 volunteers and 110,000 visitors to our facility each
year. Our staffing levels have remained
relatively constant since our founding in 1969 as volunteers
and improvements in technology have allowed us stay up to
speed on what needed to get done around a quickly growing
organization. Over the past 5 years, the
growth of OBGC has truly been incredible, but it has also
led us to have to ask for help more loudly than it ever has
before.
As
you all saw in the Community Corner, for 7 weeks OBGC’s Board
of Directors asked each of you for your feedback on a proposal
that would require a family household to donate EITHER 5 hours
of volunteer time or $50 to the Club to help pay for the jobs
that aren’t getting done. The results of
that survey were that 82% of you voted in favor of it and
9% against. The remaining responders either
didn’t have an opinion or just asked questions about one aspect
of the program or another.
We
hope that you realize that the Board is committed to providing
your family and children with a safe and nurturing environment
where you can share the greatest of experiences.
The program we refer to above was born from the fact
that every year we are seeing more and more teams being threatened
with not being able to play since no one is willing to step
up and coach for a season. The standards
at which we run and maintain the Club are high and our goal
is to maintain this level of service with help from this program.
We were recently awarded the"Seal
of Excellence" by the Nonprofits Standards
of Excellence Institute and this award exemplifies the commitment
we have to making sure our children can enjoy the programs
of the Club and will always have a place to play.
In
order to manage the Club’s current size and prepare it for
the future and maintain the quality of services and facilities
that we have, the Board has voted to institute the Dime or
Time program (formerly the Play or Pay program) outlined above.
When
registering your child for a sport, each family household
will be asked to EITHER volunteer 5 hours annually or $50.
During the registration process, you will be given
many volunteer options to choose from and the database will
collect your information and track your involvement.
If you cannot or do not want to volunteer, you can
opt out by paying $50.
Thank
you for helping to make your Club a great place for our children.
On
behalf of OBGC’s Board of Directors and with best regards,
Dan
Dionisio
